IIS Symposium
Soft and Liquid Matter Physics:
Past, Present and Future
March 10-13, 2025, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan
Welcome to SLMP2025!
Despite their breathtaking variety, ubiquity, and value for mankind, our understanding of the physical nature of soft and liquid matter lags behind the solid state due to their sheer complexity, and the intricate tapestry of order and disorder which they can exhibit. This meeting aims to bring together experts in the subjects of soft matter (active matter, polymers, liquid crystals, colloids, gels), the liquid state (glasses, supercooled liquids, water, granular matter, ionic liquids), and phase transitions (phase separation, pattern formation, dynamics), both pioneers of the field and emerging investigators. The event will not only reflect on past and present developments, but consider the future of the field in a rapidly changing scientific landscape.
The conference will be held in the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), The University of Tokyo, Japan, providing an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Professor Hajime Tanaka, a recently retired faculty member of the IIS with over 30 years of service to the field at the institute.
